FAQ

Can I rent a motorcycle for my final road test?

Yes. If you are student of 1st Gear we will rent you one of our motorcycles.

How do I get my motorcycle license?

It all starts with going to ICBC and taking the knowledge test. For all the details visit ICBC here; http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/types-licences/get-motorcycle-licence

ICBC also has an app for iPhones, iTouchs, and iPads here; https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/icbc-licensing-mobile-practice/id438491857?mt=8

Why do I need to take a motorcycle course?

Motorcycles do not come with the protection cars offer. The risk of injury riding a motorcycle is far greater than driving a car. This is why there is a separate level of education for riding versus driving. Differences include lane positioning, being visible, assessing risk, accident avoidance, etc.

Learning to ride motorcycles will put the odds in your favour for staying safe. The cost of this course will pay for itself over and over again during the years of riding you do.

Do motorcycle riders make better vehicle drivers?

Equity Red Star (a leading insurance company in the UK) examined 200 million insurance policies between 2007 and 2012 and came to the conclusion that “A motorcyclist could, behind the wheel of a car, be said to be 23% better.”

A motorcyclist is much more aware of their surroundings and values risk far more than the average person. Even if you don’t plan to ride taking this course will give you a broader education of the road.

Do I have to bring my own gear and motorcycle?

No. We will provide you with helmets, gloves, jackets (when available), rain gear, and several motorcycles to choose from. You will want to bring warm and dry clothes for when the weather is not cooperating.

Do you guys schedule the roadtest and motorcycle to use? Is it including in the course?

Yes we do and we can rent you a motorcycle for the road test.
